Urbaine

Character

First appears in Demon in White, Chapter 84

Urbaine is a magus of the Extrasolarian corporation MINOS and a Synthetic Ordinary Man (SOM) who transfers his daimon between remote physical vessels to achieve a persistent form of immortality. His body is milk-pale, bald, and tall, shaped to approximate Cielcin proportions: machine-gray eyes, a nose halfway between human and Cielcin slit nostrils, ears fused flush to his skull. He favors Mandari dress, typically deep violet.

Urbaine first appeared at the Battle of Berenike in service to the Cielcin Prince of Princes, where he was decapitated by Udax but escaped via a secondary chest transmitter. The digital attack he launched through Valka's open neural channel planted a viral worm that Tavrosi healers never fully purged, leaving her with recurring neurological seizures and an exploitable access point in her mind. On Dharan-Tun he served Syriani Dorayaica as collaborator and interrogation asset, personally designing the nerve-induction collar used to control and torture the captive Hadrian across seven years of captivity, and functioning as MINOS's ideological spokesman.

Urbaine's true agenda, revealed in a subsequent confrontation, is not loyalty to Dorayaica but the study and eventual appropriation of the transcendent Watcher power accumulating in the Prophet's body. He discloses that the bioweapon LTH-81 is already in mass production and targeted at Imperial core worlds. He exploits the residual neural implant in Valka's mind to incapacitate her and take her captive. Hadrian shoots him in the head, but Urbaine transfers his consciousness into a nearby disabled golem before dying. Valka destroys the golem, ending the confrontation -- though whether Urbaine possessed a further transmitter that might have allowed another escape remains uncertain.
