Suzuha Sagara
CharacterAlso known as: Suzuha
First appears in Howling Dark, Chapter 42
Suzuha is a clone-daughter of Kharn Sagara of Vorgossos who became one of the immortal's living incarnations after Kharn's consciousness split between her body and her brother Ren's during a damaged transference following Bassander Lin's assassination attempt. Over the centuries she became the dominant incarnation, retaining her original body far longer than any of Kharn's predecessors and ruling Vorgossos from the throne of the pyramid palace.
By the time Hadrian encounters her again she is an almost skeletal figure: blind, sustained by a network of hoses and cables plugged into ports in her body, communicating through a deep mechanical voice projected by drones, her wasted form draped in samite and cloth of gold. She claims to have been born on New Ithaca, to have slain the last true Mericanii on Vorgossos, and to have warred with three Emperors.
Suzuha reveals the full scope of Kharn's long game: approximately a thousand years before the narrative's events, she secretly gave the scattered Cielcin tribes a faster-than-light communications network by installing paired telegraph devices that reported all transmissions back to Vorgossos, granting her real-time awareness of every Cielcin fleet movement -- including Dorayaica's declaration of kingship. She also discloses that the detection technology credited to HAPSIS was her own invention, and that she had taken blood samples from Hadrian and Valka during their first imprisonment to create clones. Hadrian kills her during the audience, ending this incarnation of the immortal.
