Nobuta Otiolo

Nobuta is a Cielcin juvenile and the uvattaya -- the birthed child -- of Prince Aranata Otiolo, encountered during the failed diplomatic mission on Quietus. Smaller and softer-featured than adult Cielcin, with curling horns and a bluish cast around the eyes suggesting youth or infirmity, Nobuta is already larger than any human present.

Nobuta accompanies Aranata through the negotiations with Hadrian Marlowe's party, at times speaking out of turn and requiring Aranata's firm restraint. When the talks break down and Hadrian's forces attack the diplomatic pavilion, Nobuta is left behind with the herald Oalicomn. After Hadrian kills Oalicomn, he finds Nobuta cowering alone and takes the juvenile captive, invoking his prior return of Tanaran to secure compliance.

Aboard the Schiavona, bound at wrists and ankles, Nobuta cries out repeatedly for Aranata. Hadrian uses the captive as leverage in the subsequent standoff. When Aranata kills Sir William Crossflane and the situation becomes irretrievable, Hadrian kills Nobuta -- driving his sword through the juvenile's chest, briefly releasing highmatter light from the wound.
