Casantora Tanaran Iakato
CharacterAlso known as: Tanaran
First appears in Empire of Silence, Chapter 70
Tanaran was a Cielcin baetan -- keeper of sacred tradition and carrier of the aeta's authority -- who served Prince Aranata Otiolo. Originally captured with a pilgrimage expedition to Emesh, it became Hadrian's primary conduit to the Cielcin: traveling in fugue crèches aboard human vessels, learning Galstani through Valka, testifying before Kharn Sagara on Vorgossos, and advocating for Hadrian before Aranata during the apostol negotiations. Aranata killed Tanaran for giving false counsel after Hadrian executed Nobuta.
In the years following its death, Valka corrects Hadrian's misattribution of the revelation about Akterumu -- the sacred Cielcin site that drew the pilgrimage to Emesh -- noting it was Tanaran, not Kharn, who first described it as a place of pilgrimage.
