Demetri Arello

Demetri Arello is a Jaddian free trader captain who carries Hadrian offworld from Delos aboard his vessel the Eurynasir. He has oiled-bronze skin and luminous white hair marking him as a man of the outer lanes beyond Imperial reach. He is practical and protective of his crew, having agreed to transport Hadrian to Teukros via Obatala and Siena over thirteen real-time years -- with arrival projected at Imperial year 16149. He notes the ship's cryogenic crèches are salvaged from an Imperial Legion destroyer that crashed on a moon of Bellos. Before Hadrian enters suspension, Demetri overrules his ship's doctor and permits Hadrian to keep his signet ring.

Despite this small act of accommodation, Demetri and his entire crew ultimately abandon the Eurynasir mid-voyage, taking the ship's shuttles and leaving Hadrian frozen in cryogenic suspension. The unmanned vessel drifts to Emesh rather than Teukros. Whether the abandonment was deliberate betrayal or forced on the crew by some hazard of the outer lanes remains unknown; Hadrian finds no trace of Demetri or his crew at Borosevo's reclamation depot.
