Archambault
CharacterAlso known as: Captain Archambault
First appears in Disquiet Gods, Chapter 34
Archambault is an Exalted chimera and captain of the Sojourner Two Dreams of Spring, a warship crewing ten thousand Exalted soldiers pledged to the Imperial alliance against the Cielcin. His human throat and vocal cords are entirely gone, replaced by deep mechanical speakers that produce a voice with little human inflection. He communicates by audio-only transmission when contacting Demiurge to reduce signal lag.
Archambault serves as one of the senior military figures in the Latarran embassy, presenting intelligence on Cielcin worldship vulnerabilities at the Emperor's Council on Forum and offering his fleet in service to humanity's war effort.
When Hadrian warns him of an order to destroy the Latarran fleet, Archambault is surprised and questions why Hadrian would betray that intelligence to him. He discloses that among the Exalted, only Captain Zelaz knew the Monarch's true identity, having helped the Monarch establish his presence on Latarra; among the Commandant Generals, only Jansen, Ardonas, and Kallikrates were privy to the secret -- not Aristedes. When Melancholia is destroyed, Archambault's flat mechanical voice tightens with accusation, blaming Hadrian for the attack, before cutting off all external communications.
