Belusha's skies are described as black with soot, suggesting heavy industrial activity or an atmosphere darkened by pollution.

The population of Belusha labors in chain gangs and salt mines. Prisoners are transported to the colony in cryonic suspension, held frozen until sufficient numbers can be shipped off together.

Belusha is described as one of the Emperor's prison colonies -- a penal world under direct Imperial authority. It functions as a dumping ground for the Empire's condemned, a destination for those awaiting transport from military holding facilities such as Fort Din on Gododdin.
