Paul

Paul is a triaster, or squad leader, of the three-man guard detail assigned to protect Hadrian and Valka aboard the Ascalon. During an assassination attempt, Paul is posted outside the ship when the floodlights are shot out and the perimeter fence is cut. He joins Hadrian in pursuing the fleeing attacker, though the assassin escapes into the camp. Afterward, Paul reassures Hadrian against self-recrimination, arguing that Hadrian bears less guilt than anyone given his efforts to end the war.
