Otavia Corvo
CharacterAlso known as: Captain Corvo, Captain Otavia Corvo, Corvo, Otavia, Otavia Corvo (Captain of the Mistral)
First appears in Howling Dark, Chapter 1
Otavia Corvo was a Norman mercenary who served Hadrian as captain of the ISV Tamerlane from his rise to knighthood until her death at the battle of Eue. Before joining Hadrian's company she served the Norman tyrant Emil Bordelon for ten years; she turned on Bordelon after witnessing repeated atrocities, and together she and Hadrian killed him. She had previously captained the Mistral under the Meidua Red Company.
Corvo stood seven feet tall with corded muscle, dark skin, and a cloud of golden hair -- almost certainly not fully human, her extraordinary physique allowing her to absorb stunner fire and overpower multiple soldiers barehanded.
Fierce loyalty and decisive action defined her service. During the mission to Padmurak she persuaded Valka not to return to Vedatharad to rescue Hadrian, arguing the Tamerlane could negotiate from a position of strength. She and Valka piloted a commandeered Lothrian freighter and shared watch during the years spent hiding on the Cielcin worldship's hull. At Eue she killed the remaining Cielcin on the bridge, seized the weapons systems, and fired the Tamerlane's guns one final time as the Ascalon escaped -- staying behind as a captain who went down with her ship. Her last words to Hadrian were 'See it done.' Hadrian raised a cairn for her on the plateau of Thessa.
