Miudanar

Character

First appears in Demon in White, Chapter 87

Miudanar, known as the Dreamer, is one of the Watchers -- ancient cosmic entities worshipped as gods by the Cielcin and the Enar. In ancient Cielcin and Enar stelai it is depicted as a hundred-armed serpent grasping whole planets, the god whose dominion both races served. Once apparently dead, its enormous skull formed the central shrine of Akterumu on Eue.

Miudanar is paired with Ushara as one of two rebellious Watchers who turned against creation. Its true origin is that of 'Yama,' a being who once shaped the people who would become the Cielcin. It spent centuries occupying the body of Dorayaica, gradually turning the Prophet-King's flesh to stone, before escaping after Dorayaica's destruction and manifesting physically near Cynon as a giant whose face was identical to Hadrian's own. It crushed warships and drove Cielcin fleets through hyperspace by will alone before Hadrian repelled it.

Miudanar and Ushara are destroyed when Hadrian fires Astrophage at their dying sun. In his final vision, Hadrian sees both Watchers as shadows standing almost arm in arm -- seemingly a man and a woman, their silhouettes distended -- crying out in a mixture of languages as the light takes them.
