Makisomn

Character

First appears in Empire of Silence, Chapter 42

Makisomn is a Cielcin prisoner procured by Chanter Gilliam Vas and held beneath the Borosevo coliseum as a sacrificial spectacle for Dorian Mataro's Ephebeia on Emesh. Its captors had sawed its epoccipital crest and horns to nubs as a deliberate humiliation, though by the time of the execution ceremony they have begun to grow back.

When Hadrian visits its cell before the triumph, Makisomn speaks with him in Cielcin, correcting his pronunciation and asking how it will die; Hadrian tells it "not well." At the Ephebeia ceremony, sedated and brought into sunlight its subterranean biology cannot tolerate, Makisomn is beheaded by a cathar with the White Sword. Hadrian whispers the Cielcin word for farewell -- *udatssa* -- as a private act of mourning.
