Iubalu

Character

Also known as: Vayadan Iubalu

First appears in Demon in White, Chapter 25

Iubalu is the vayadan-general of the Iedyr Yemani -- the White Hand -- a chimeric construct serving the Cielcin prophet Syriani Dorayaica. One of six Vayadan (Holy Slaves) and one of the Cielcin Exalted, its body is armored in bone-white adamant impervious to conventional weapons, equipped with four mechanical arms, an array of integrated weapons, and personal shields. An internal machine daimon assists its once-organic consciousness, and its face retains preserved flesh fixed in a permanent wide grin.

Iubalu engages Hadrian during the campaign on Aptucca, proving nearly unstoppable in battle aboard the Merciless before being cornered and immobilized. Rather than surrender, it wipes its own memory and personality, dying on its own terms. Its final words warn that Dorayaica has foreseen Hadrian's death and allude to a sacrifice yet to come.

Long after its death, Hadrian counts Iubalu among the beings he has killed and continues to reckon with its dying prophecy as the shadow of Syriani Dorayaica's designs grows.
