Irene Avent

The name Irene is shared by two distinct individuals in the series.

Irene Avent is a princess of House Avent and the second child of Emperor William XXIII of the Sollan Empire. She attends the Imperial ball on Forum following the Triumph celebrating Hadrian Marlowe's victory at Nemavand, and Hadrian had once named her as a possible suspect in an assassination attempt against him on Gododdin.

A second Irene -- a young Danuan girl with no relation to the Imperial house -- is among the survivors evacuated from Danu during the Cielcin assault. She is found hiding with other children aboard Demiurge, bearing blood on her face, having witnessed her uncle Donar -- possessed by the entity Ushara -- murder her father. Traumatized and sobbing, she rides on William's back during the tramway run and is present when he is killed by a stray shot in the hall beyond the tunnel.
