Father Calvert
CharacterAlso known as: Calvert
First appears in Howling Dark, Chapter 41
Father Calvert is an Exalted guardian in the service of Kharn Sagara, charged with tending Sagara's clone nursery -- a facility he refers to as his Garden. He is ancient, claiming to have been without a sword for approximately four thousand years, and traces his origins to the Emperor's High College and subsequent research work for the Chantry's Choir, though he was never a cathar.
Calvert's primary form is a massive war machine: eight black legs, a rotating boom arm, and a featureless oblate head-turret, armored in adamant. When circumstances require it, he can eject this chassis to reveal a withered biological core -- a near-skeletal human torso on grotesquely elongated black metal limbs -- capable of preternatural speed.
When Hadrian and Valka infiltrate the nursery, Calvert captures and imprisons them. He subsequently visits their cell to collect genetic samples from both, threatening to use their genes to produce clone bodies for Sagara or to create engineered pets. He is devoted entirely to Sagara's purposes and enforces this role with explicit threats of lobotomy and the rendering vats.
