Dame Raine Smythe

Raine Smythe was a Knight-Tribune of the 437th Centaurine Legion commanding the ISV Obdurate. Born of plebeian stock -- her mother was a solar farm technician -- she served nearly three centuries and rose to patrician rank through augmentation.

On Emesh, she assumed emergency command after a Cielcin incursion, conscripted Hadrian under Article 119 of the Great Charters, and sent him on the Vorgossos peace mission over the objections of Tribune Hauptmann. At Vorgossos, she led the Imperial diplomatic mission, supplying Kharn Sagara twenty thousand colonial sleepers as the price of access -- a decision subsequently confirmed to have been authorized by Hauptmann himself. When the summit collapsed, she commanded the retreat, was captured, and was executed by Cielcin Aeta Aranata Otiolo. Her last words urged Hadrian not to surrender.
