Crispin Marlowe
CharacterAlso known as: Crispin (the protagonist's brother), Lord Crispin, Crispin
First appears in Empire of Silence, Chapter 1
Crispin is the younger brother of Hadrian Marlowe and Lord of Devil's Rest on Delos, having inherited from their father Lord Alistair Marlowe. Their relationship was defined by a rivalry manufactured in childhood, a violent parting confrontation, and decades of estrangement -- closed finally by Crispin's message severing all contact and informing Hadrian of their parents' deaths. The High College denied him an heir, and House Marlowe will die with him on Delos.
Crispin surfaces in Hadrian's memories during a psychic assault by Miudanar aboard the Aurora: as a boy of seven he stood beside Hadrian in the porphyry chamber where the two had crept in against their father's orders to see their grandmother Lady Fuchsia's body. Hadrian reflects on Crispin with pity, conscious that power over the genetic database has meant Crispin was denied the joy of fatherhood.
