Commander Vedi

Vedi is a Commander in the Imperial military who commands the frigate Rhea, grounded at the Phanamhara camp. He operates under Friedrich Oberlin and holds orders to deploy the NEM weapon -- designated the Perseus weapon -- at the camp's edge.

When Hadrian alerts him to a missing Irchtani patrol, Vedi responds with measured skepticism but follows Hadrian's escalating instructions. After Oberlin's murder, he assumes joint command with Hadrian by default and orders the Perseus weapon prepared for deployment; he has already independently telegraphed the Troglita to summon aquilarii cavalry reinforcements. He is killed on the Rhea's bridge when the infiltrator Lascaris reveals itself and strikes him with a knife-missile.
