Avarra
CharacterFirst appears in Kingdoms of Death, Chapter 37
Avarra is a Cielcin from the ancient past, the companion and mate of Elu -- the founding figure of Cielcin religious memory. Avarra appears in Hadrian's vision of that ancient era, accompanying Elu to the skull-temple at Akterumu. There, at Elu's command, Avarra approaches but says 'No' and retreats in fear before Elu slashes its throat with a bone-white knife, sacrifices its body on an altar at the temple's base, and burns it. This act becomes the mythic template for Cielcin ritual sacrifice: Syriani Dorayaica later invokes it explicitly when offering Hadrian to the god Miudanar, echoing 'as Avarra sacrificed itself for Elu.'
