Annaz

Annaz is a black-feathered Irchtani chiliarch of the House of Yazgan, commanding the Irchtani Guard in Hadrian's retinue. He wears a scarlet Imperial tunic adapted for his non-human body and stands no taller than five feet. A descendant of Udax Vaanshakril seven generations removed, he volunteered to serve Hadrian out of ancestral devotion -- the Irchtani regard Hadrian as the Bashan Iseni (Higher Being), whose forebears gave their people access to space travel. He holds that the Ugaanwali -- the Great War -- is the prophesied conflict in which even Death will die, and that Irchtani who serve Hadrian faithfully will escape Hakaaro and ascend.

Across the Disquiet Gods campaign, Annaz leads patrols, extracts Hadrian from combat by air, and at Vorgossos leads his kinsmen through tunnels to overwhelm the enemy. Aboard the Demiurge, his wing suffers heavy losses against Chantry Sentinels before he leads the survivors into the machine heart.

Annaz carries deep and persistent hostility toward the Cielcin, demanding blood for blood after Irchtani warriors are killed. He relents only when Hadrian speaks to the assembled Irchtani in their own tongue and they bow to him as Bashan Iseni. Despite this submission, Annaz leads a second attempt against the confined Cielcin and has to be stunned to be stopped. He carries Hadrian out of the burning streets of Catraeth by air when riots break out.

By the Llurug Planum gathering, Annaz accompanies Hadrian with two dozen Irchtani countrymen and is present on the bridge of Demiurge during the battle at Gododdin.
