Some years before Hadrian's time on Emesh, the Jaddian Principalities captured a Cielcin outrider near Obatala — an event Lady Kalima recounts during her visit to Calagah. The mention revives Hadrian's long-standing concern about Demetri's disappearance, as Obatala was one of the worlds on the merchant's documented route, and the Cielcin presence in its vicinity raises the possibility that Demetri was taken rather than simply lost.
