Nairi

World

First appears in Ashes of Man, Chapter 9

Nairi is an obscure planet in the Outer Perseus arm of the galaxy. It contains a single Vaiartu settlement and is notable as the site of the Atropos expedition, during which an entire Imperial scientific party was killed.

Geography

Nairi is a world in the Outer Perseus arm, lying among the stars of Perseus. It has no permanent human settlements. The sole inhabited site on the planet is a single Vaiartu city carved into the face of a cliff, stretching half a hundred miles from end to end. The world has no other settlements.

Culture

HAPSIS identified Nairi as a great Vaiartu pilgrimage shrine. The planet's sole Vaiartu structure is a cliff-carved city of enormous extent, suggesting it held significant religious or cultural importance to the Vaiartu.

Politics

Under orders from Emperor Sebastian XII, an Imperial expedition designated the Atropos expedition, led by Sir Damien Aradhya, traveled to Nairi to investigate the Vaiartu ruins. The entire expedition died on the surface. The expedition's findings remain contested: Nicephorus, an androgyn serving as the Emperor's Lord Chamberlain, holds that the Watcher found entombed beneath the cliff city was only a beast and does not represent evidence of divine contact.

Notable Locations
