Meidua coliseum

The Meidua coliseum is a large arena in the city of Meidua capable of holding approximately seventy thousand spectators. It hosts the annual Colosso season of gladiatorial games, sanctioned as an instrument of social control under the Sollan Empire's tradition of bread and circuses. The facility features a massive amplified sound system, a killing floor surrounded by stun-rod-carrying douleters and chain-equipped teams to manage large creatures, a lord's box elevated above the floor with an energy shield curtain and its own locking door, and hydraulic lifts at multiple points on the floor that raise and lower performers and animals. The smells of burning flesh, kebabs, popcorn, sweetened drinks, and cheap beer fill the stands during events.

The Colosso season opens with animal-baiting — including azhdarch, alien predators transported for the spectacle — and proceeds to staged historical reenactments and individual champion bouts. Gladiators include both professional performers like the Meidua Devils troupe and condemned criminals sentenced to arena service. Events at the coliseum can be broadcast on the Meidua Broadcast network across the city.
