Haspida

Location

Also known as: Haspida (where the mother's studio is mentioned)

First appears in Empire of Silence, Chapter 5

Haspida is the Kephalos family's summer palace on Delos, located in the southern region of the planet near the city of Euclid and its spaceport. By palatine standards it is modest — seven hectares including inner gardens and domed greenhouse conservatories, less than a third the area of Devil's Rest — but its main palace contains twenty-four hundred rooms with Rococo scrollwork, water gardens, koi ponds, an arboretum, orchards, clear pools, and ornamental fortifications. A detached Pre-Peregrine-style villa serves as Liliana's personal workspace: it houses a holography booth twenty feet in diameter, an entoptics monocle, an old-style computer console, crystal hand tablets, and heavy entoptic goggles, along with a water feature running into a koi pond. The villa is guarded by Kephalos legionnaires.

Liliana maintains authority over all security cameras in the household as its director, using this control to erase surveillance footage and manage what Lord Alistair's agents can see. The palace grounds include a lily pond overlooked by black-leaved cypress trees, a landing field used for shuttle arrivals and departures, and smooth metallic-walled suites fitted with cameras. Haspida is the site of Hadrian's final days on Delos before his escape aboard the Eurynasir.
