Vimal Gaston

Vimal Gaston, Commandant of the local Defense Force at Phanamhara on Sabratha, commands ground security at the dig camp. A native Sabrathan and career officer, he introduces Hadrian to the ruins' Hulle Frieze mural and witnesses its disturbing phenomena firsthand before the Cielcin attack.

Gaston leads his garrison through the assault on the camp, withdrawing his surviving forces to the north ridge as Hadrian ordered and holding position through the night. He survives the battle and meets Hadrian at the edge of the camp afterward, haggard but alive. He questions Hadrian about the extraordinary events of the night -- including a giant woman and an entity seen in the sky -- and resists Hadrian's order to annihilate the Phanamhara site, insisting the command should come from the governor-general. He ultimately defers to Hadrian's authority.
