Pavo
CharacterFirst appears in Disquiet Gods, Chapter 60
Pavo is a young Latarran dragoon soldier who joins Calen Harendotes during the assault on the palace in Disquiet Gods. He is the soldier who, on a descending cargo lift, boldly confronts Harendotes with doubts about his identity and promises -- a moment Hadrian Marlowe calls braver than many a great king. Harendotes uses Pavo's challenge as the occasion to deliver his speech on eternal life, and Pavo leads his compatriots in pledging themselves to the Monarch.
Pavo commands four other Latarran dragoons in the Tree of Life hall. When Harendotes collapses in seizure after linking himself to the console, Pavo throws down his weapon and kneels to tend him. He is killed in the ensuing battle, his body found slumped over Harendotes's. Hadrian reflects that Pavo had pledged himself to Harendotes for the promise of immortality and received little more than an hour.
