Damon Argyris
CharacterAlso known as: Argyris, Lord Damon Argyris
First appears in Kingdoms of Death, Chapter 12
Lord Damon Argyris is a palatine Imperial official who serves as Chief Consul to Padmurak for the Sollan Empire, stationed in Vedatharad for nearly fifty years. A large, mustachioed man of sybaritic habits, he has spent decades within the walls of the embassy tower, effectively cut off from the Empire he nominally represents.
Over the course of those decades, Argyris allows himself to be bought by the Grand Conclave, entering a long-term arrangement that ensures his comfortable life in exchange for compliance. When the Grand Conclave threatens to torch the embassy unless he surrenders Hadrian, he honors that arrangement. He deceives his own legionnaires by falsely accusing Hadrian of seeking to seize the throne, and stalls for time with procedural objections when Hadrian orders immediate departure. After his betrayal is exposed, he assures Hadrian that the Emperor need never know, offering to report him dead at the hands of terrorists. Hadrian shoots him dead on the spot.
