Amarei of Mira

Amarei is a red-haired gladiatrix fighting for the Borosevo Sphinxes at the Borosevo Colosso on Emesh. She is, by Hadrian's assessment, the best fighter he has ever faced in single combat. His twenty-seventh single-combat victory is against her, and it is his closest call: he wins not through clean swordsmanship but by gaming her combat suit's programmed damage-response time — repeatedly scraping her arms to slow the suit's reactions — rather than fighting her as a proper duel. The victory leaves him with weeping red lines on the inside of one arm and across his chest, and she breaks his lip with a punch during the fight. Switch unconsciously pats his own red hair when her name is mentioned.
